About me

Hello! I am a language teacher residing in Vietnam, originally from the United States. In my free time, I pursue GIS study. This blog is where I document my learning and show my work. I post updates on my everyday learning as well as my featured work.
Why do I want to learn GIS? I would say my motivations are twofold. One is personal — I enjoy learning, GIS is powerful and fascinating, and I have a project in mind that I want to build. The other is professional, as GIS is a promising career that is in-line with my academic background (B.s. Agriculture and Natural Resources).
I’ve been learning GIS since 2023, from a hodge-podge of sources. Here is a list:
- some geospatial courses at Central New Mexico Community College
- qgistutorials.com
- codecademy.com
- PyQGIS Programmer’s Guide by Gary Sherman
My future plans are to advance my GIS skills, then build upon them by gaining skill in Python, statistics and machine learning for geospatial. I plan to continue my higher education, perhaps with a certification or degree in GIS. I also envision myself someday working in GIS either privately or for a company.
